The process implemented recently by the Malaysian Immigration Department require employers or companies to cancel the current Employment Pass when applying for a change of category (Category 1, 2, or 3).

 

However, effective from 1st January 2025, employers or companies will also need to submit a "change of category letter" at the approval stage of the application. Sample change of category letter can be downloaded at https://mdec.my/expats.

 

As such, we encourage the company to ensure the letter is attached upon submission of applications to ensure a smooth process for expatriate services.
