Board of Directors

In order to navigate an intricate and fast-changing digital economy, MDEC put together a management team that boasts extensive knowledge in many areas of our business. The Board of Directors is made up of representatives from the Government and corporate sectors, lead by Chairman of the board YBhg. Tan Sri Sidek Hassan.

The Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for the country’s tech-led initiatives, be it in terms of direction, strategic supervision, or management. With their blend of diversity and high-level expertise, there is no better team to guide MDEC towards a tech-led economy.

YBhg. Tan Sri Sidek Hassan

YBhg. Tan Sri Sidek Hassan is the Chairman of the Board of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). He was appointed to the Board on 1st May 2016.

Tan Sri Sidek Hassan is also the Chairman of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and sits on the Board of Top Glove Corp Bhd and Malayan Flour Mills Bhd.

Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC)

YBhg. Datuk Yasmin Mahmood was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), effective 15 September 2014. She was appointed to the Board on 19 January 2015.

Her career prior to joining MDEC includes leadership positions such as Executive Director of YTL e-Solutions Bhd., Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Regional Manager of Dell Asia Pacific and General Manager of HP Sales Malaysia.

YBhg. Datuk Wan Ahmad Shihab Wan Ismail

Special Officer to the Honourable Prime Minister

YBhg. Datuk Wan Ahmad Shihab Ismail is the current Special Officer to the Honourable Prime MInister and was appointed to the Board on 1 May 2009.

When Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Razak took office as Prime Minister in April 2009, Wan Shihab followed him to the Prime Minister’s Office where he currently serves as Special Officer and Divisional Director responsible over selected areas of policy and public relations.

YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad

YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Sharifah Zarah currently serves as MDEC's Secretary-General Ministry Of Communications and Multimedia. She was appointed to the Board on 6 April 2015.

Tan Sri Dr. Sharifah Zarah continues to blaze the trail in promoting innovation and women empowerment by contributing significantly to the establishment of the Women Innovation Academy Malaysia (MyWIN) in 2014. She is now one of MyWIN’s Board of Directors.

YBhg. Datuk Wan Ahmad Shihab Wan Ismail

YBhg. Datuk Wan Ahmad Shihab Ismail is the current Special Officer to the Honourable Prime MInister and was appointed to the Board on 1 May 2009.

When Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Razak took office as Prime Minister in April 2009, Wan Shihab followed him to the Prime Minister’s Office where he currently serves as Special Officer and Divisional Director responsible over selected areas of policy and public relations.

YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Sharifah Zarah currently serves as MDEC's Secretary-General Ministry Of Communications and Multimedia. She was appointed to the Board on 6 April 2015.

YBhg Datuk Dr. Parmjit Singh holds the Chief Executive Officer role in APIIT Education Group. He was appointed to the Board on 1 May 2009.

Datuk Parmjit has a remarkable reputation and track record for his leadership in education in Malaysia and has served the nation in various capacities as Chairman, Advisor, Board Member and Council Member on a number of National level organisations.

YBhg. Dato’ Mathialakan Chelliah

YBhg. Dato’ Mathialakan Chelliah is MDEC's Company Director and was appointed to the Board on 19 January 2015.

He has served the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) for more than 30 years in various capacities and senior positions. From 1988 - 2008, he served in several MIDA overseas offices in Zurich, Berne, Milan and London to promote Malaysia as a potential investment location for European companies and to assist them to prepare their business models.

YBhg. Dato' Siti Zauyah currently serves as Deputy Secretary General of the Treasury (Policy). She was appointed to the Board on 1st May 2016.

YBhg. Dato' Siti Zauyah joined the Ministry of Finance Malaysia (“MOF”) in 1989 and served in various divisions, among others, the Contract Management Division, the Tax Division, the Loans Management Division, the Government Investment Company Division and The Budget Division.

Mr. Ang Chin Joo (C J Ang)

Mr. Ang Chin Joo (C J Ang) is PIKOM's current Advisor and was appointed to the Board on 1 May 2011.

Mr. C J Ang is one of the pioneers of the ICT industry since 1977 in Malaysia. As PIKOM President, he led the execution of this strategic plan to double the industry’s contribution to GDP. Mr. Ang has served the ICT industry with dedication and passion, both in companies he served, in PIKOM, the National ICT Association, and in several key Government agencies and committees in the pursuit of growth and progress in the Malaysian ICT industry.

Mr. Steve Hsia is currently the co-Founder and CEO of Young Outliers, Inc. and was appointed to the Board on 27 January 2015. Steve is an active Internet business angel investor focusing in Silicon Valley and Asia with various experiences with digital agencies, talents and start-ups.

Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai Bin Mohd Razi

Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai was appointed to the Board on 22 August 2016.

Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai started his career in the Sabah State Civil Service in 1980. From 1983 until 1989 he was with Sabah Energy Corporation/Sabah Gas Industries Sdn. Bhd. holding various positions.

Prior to his early retirement, Tuan Haji Mohamed Rifai was the CEO of IIB Insurance Brokers Sdn. Bhd. In addition to that he was also a Board member with KKIP Communications Sdn. Bhd, the operator of Sabah Net. He currently sits on the Board of Progressive Insurance Bhd.

YBhg. DATO' SRI MOHD SHUKRI BIN ABDULL

YBhg. Dato’ Sri Mohd Shukri has served the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for more than 30 years in various capacities and senior positions. He joined MACC in 1984 as an Investigation Officer at the Accounts Investigation Division, MACC Headquarters.

He has been involved in many investigation related to accounts, banks and financial companies. He mostly involved in the investigation of many corruptions cases. In 2006, he was assigned to MACC Headquarters and appointed as the Director of Investigations. In 2010 he was promoted as the Deputy Chief Commissioner Operation. He retired in October 2016 at the age of 56.
