The nature of knowledge is changing and in this digital age, our definition of basic competency urgently needs expanding. Digital Competency Score (DCS) has been co- developed by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) to gauge the digital competency level of the Malaysian youth towards preparing them for the future of workforce. DCS uses gamification approach which measures the digital competency levels through 3 main domains as illustrated below and is conducted in schools. In 2015, DCS indicators, rubrics and measurement instruments were developed based on selected local and international standards, tailored to fit the Malaysian education syllabus in public schools. The DCS has been piloted in 24 schools with minimum 4-star SSQS ranking. The results of the pilot presented to the Smart School Steering Committee in 2016, and iterations were accordingly being made prior to scaling to 300 schools all schools nationwide in the same year. In 2017, DCS is been successfully deployed to 3000 selected schools with participation by over 120,000 students.
