The Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for the country’s tech-led initiatives, be it in terms of direction, strategic supervision, or management. With their blend of diversity and high-level expertise, there is no better team to guide MDEC towards a tech-led economy.
He has been actively promoting inbound investment, technology and execution for high-tech high value projects in Malaysia and the exciting growth markets of the ASEAN economic zone. Among the issues that fascinates him are those related to disruptive change, big data, the wide use of apps driven economy, algorithms and artificial intelligence. Straddling between science, strategy, communications, and policy advice, Dr Rais has sought to convince governments to adopt a private public partnerships as advocated by World Bank, to resolve any market break down or conundrums.
Dr Rais Hussin received his Bachelors in Economics (Hons), Masters in Management and Doctorate in Business Administration from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
One of his accomplished milestones was being appointed as the first Director of the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), Sabah branch. He served in this this role the longest – from year 2000 to 2009. He was given the responsibility to lead the Immigration Department in Sabah for three years, thus becoming the first Sabah native to be appointed at this position. He made another landmark achievement when he was appointed as the first Director-General of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) in 2013. He also served as Senior Under-Secretary for the Human Resource Management Division for the Ministry of Education In 2014. YBhg Dato’ Sri Mohammad was later appointed as the Secretary General for the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in 2016, where he became the first Sabah native to be appointed to this position. He was later re-assigned, in similar capacity, to the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC).
Puan Afidah began her career in the banking industry in 2000 after graduating from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) with a Bachelor Degree in Economics in 1999. In 2009, she graduated with a Master’s in Development Economics from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Over the years, Dato’ Dr Halimah has played a key role in multiple collaborations with industry leaders. It is through these collaborations that she’s able to receive multiple accolades for inventions and innovations at both national and international levels.
Lee began his political foray in 1997 and made strong inroads in his political career, first being named a council member with Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) and later becoming a state assemblyman after winning the Kajang state seat in the 2013 general election. Lee’s political career sees him now playing an active role in government, having held the post of Special Tasks Officer to the Minister of Housing and Local Government since 2018.
His involvement beyond politics and law extends to his services to various community based organisations over the years, either as a senior office-bearer or legal advisor. Lee received his Bachelor of Law, LLB (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom.
He graduated from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) with a PhD in Finance and a Masters Degree for Business Management from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Since 2019, Dr. Muhammad Abdullah is an alumni of Harvard Business School, Harvard University. Since 2008, Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Abdullah is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Business, UNIMAS. He also spent a fair bit of time in the corporate sector as well when he was a Senior Vice President at KAF Seagroatt & Campbell Securities Sdn. Bhd. and a Vice President at CIMB Securities Sdn. Bhd. Presently, he is a board member for the National Wage Consultative Council, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation, Land Custody Development Authority and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd.
She is an Economics graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and holds a Masters in Economics from New York University.
He was also invited by the Honorable Chancellor of Germany, Madam Angela Merkel to share his expertise on AI for Antimicrobial resistance and the use of technology to solve global grand challenges in Germany. Dr Dhesi is one of the experts that drafted the use of technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for the United Nations in an expert panel meeting in New York & Geneva.
He has more than 25 years of experience leading and driving operational and IT enabled change in Insurance and Banking industry across Asia, specifically in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and China (including Hong Kong). Lee has held leadership roles in Accenture, DXC Technologies, New York Life Insurance, Zurich Insurance, MetLife, and AXA. He received his Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from Brown University, USA.
He is also a Director at SAB Global, owner and manager of Axiom Learning and Child Enhancement center in Malaysia. He has previously held leadership roles in the licensed money services business, having represented the Malaysian money-changing industry at the 2014 Mutual Evaluation Report on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures in Malaysia.Jaleeludeen holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Honours) from the International Islamic University, Malaysia and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor, High Court of Malaya in 1995. In addition, he is a Trust Officer approved by the Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA), a licensed Company Secretary and a Committee Member of the Institute of Approved Company Secretaries (IACS).
