CYBERJAYA, 10 Disember 2024 &ndash; Perbadanan Ekonomi Digital Malaysia (MDEC) menyambut baik keputusan Majlis Ekonomi Digital dan Revolusi Perindustrian Ke-4 Negara (MED4IRN) pada 4 Disember 2024 yang telah meluluskan Inisiatif Pendigitalan Perniagaan Bersepadu untuk perusahaan mikro, kecil dan sederhana (PMKS). Inisiatif ini merupakan &ldquo;game-changer&rdquo; yang akan memacu pendigitalan keseluruhan rantaian perniagaan dan mendaya upayakan PMKS ke arah meningkatkan produktiviti serta mengurangkan kos operasi perniagaan sehingga 20% menjelang tahun 2030.

&nbsp;

Inisiatif Pendigitalan Perniagaan Bersepadu ini merangkumi komponen-komponen penting seperti Penyatuan ID Perniagaan dan Penilaian Tahap Kematangan Digital yang bertujuan untuk memadankan solusi digital yang bersesuaian dengan keperluan perniagaan masa kini serta melonjakkan tahap kematangan digital perniagaan tempatan.

Inisiatif ini merupakan komitmen kerajaan untuk mempercepat transformasi digital PMKS menjelang 2030, dengan sasaran 1.26 juta perniagaan mencapai tahap kematangan menggunakan teknologi digital yang komprehensif dan 292,000 perniagaan mencapai tahap kematangan pendigitalan menyeluruh dan menggunakan teknologi terkini. &ldquo;Kebanyakan PMKS hanya menggunakan teknologi digital asas dalam urusan perniagaan. Inisiatif ini menyasarkan sekurang-kurangnya 80% PMKS akan menggunakan teknologi digital secara lebih komprehensif merentasi fungsi Front-, Middle- dan Back-Office,&rdquo; jelas Anuar Fariz Fadzil, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif MDEC.

Tambah beliau, &ldquo;Melalui kolaborasi strategik dengan agensi-agensi seperti SME Corp, inisiatif ini telah dirancang dengan teliti untuk memastikan penyelarasan yang efektif dari aspek perancangan hingga ke pelaksanaan. Ini akan mempercepatkan lagi agenda transformasi pendigitalan perniagaan, sekaligus menjadikan ekonomi negara lebih berdaya tahan dan inovatif. MDEC akan melaksanakan mandat dan amanah ini sebaik mungkin bagi memastikan usaha transformasi pendigitalan ini dapat digandakan dan dipercepatkan.&rdquo;

Pada masa yang sama, MDEC turut menyambut baik keputusan MED4IRN yang telah bersetuju dengan Rangka Tindakan Ekonomi Perkongsian (RTEP) dan&nbsp; penambahbaikan struktur tadbir urus Jawatankuasa Kebangsaan Ekonomi Perkongsian (JKEP) ke arah menjadikan Ekonomi Perkongsian sebagai pemacu utama ekonomi digital negara. JKEP akan dipengerusikan secara bersama antara Kementerian Ekonomi dan Kementerian Digital serta diurusetiakan oleh MDEC.

Berdasarkan data SSM pada tahun 2021, saiz pasaran bagi 83 platform Ekonomi Perkongsian adalah mencecah RM3.6 billion. Sehingga Ogos 2024, terdapat lebih 230 platform berasaskan model Ekonomi Perkongsian yang telah beroperasi di Malaysia. Penambahbaikan JKEP ini dilihat penting untuk merebut peluang serta menangani cabaran dalam mengembangkan lagi potensi Ekonomi Perkongsian di Malaysia seperti perancangan dan pelaksanaan pelan tindakan yang lebih berfokus serta pembangunan dasar dan mekanisme perundangan yang lebih jelas.

Keahlian JKEP juga akan diperluaskan daripada 22 kepada 26 anggota yang terdiri daripada pelbagai kementerian dan agensi. Antara kementerian baharu yang dimasukkan ialah Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) berdasarkan kepentingan model Ekonomi Perkongsian dalam merealisasikan konsep Bandar Pintar (Smart City), dan Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Kos Sara Hidup (KPDN) untuk memastikan aspek keselamatan dan kepentingan pengguna turut diberi perhatian.

Deputy Minister of Digital Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said e-Invoicing for business digitalisation represents a fundamental shift towards greater efficiencies, transparency and compliance, while facilitating seamless cross-border trade.

&nbsp;

&ldquo;By strategically adopting e-Invoicing, businesses are not just adapting to the future but actively shaping it, unlocking opportunities for growth and innovation on a global scale,&rdquo; he said.

&nbsp;

&ldquo;Malaysia&rsquo;s journey into e-Invoicing began with a clear vision: To empower businesses to be more efficient, transparent and future-proof, all for the greater good of local businesses and the rakyat.&rdquo;

E-Invoicing transforms how businesses handle invoicing and tax reporting, offering a seamless, automated solution that minimises errors and accelerates transactions.

Meanwhile, Anuar said that MDEC has diligently worked to introduce an e-Invoicing framework aligned with international standards, encouraging adoption through partnerships with service providers and businesses, as well as collaborating closely with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) to ensure compliance with tax requirements and ease of implementation.

He added that Malaysia now ranks among the top five countries globally in Peppol membership. &ldquo;Malaysia&rsquo;s high ranking in this area worldwide reflects the robust growth of local e-Invoicing service providers and a collective commitment to fostering a competitive global e-Invoicing ecosystem.&rdquo;

&ldquo;Peppol is particularly beneficial for companies engaged in international trade or dealing with foreign clients and suppliers, enabling interoperability across diverse e-Invoicing systems worldwide,&rdquo; said Anuar.

MDEC is committed to supporting Malaysian tech companies in expanding their international presence and fostering bilateral collaborations that drive innovation and economic growth. MDEC has upheld its commitment by bringing 30 Malaysian tech companies to participate in the programme, emphasising the collective efforts of all partners involved.

The key highlights of this programme are the exchanged of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and Memorandum of Agreements (MoAs) documents between Malaysia and Vietnam counterparts. In line with the ongoing MoU between MDEC and Sunwah Innovation, DEX Connex Vietnam 2024 programme serves as a vital platform for strengthening bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam in the digital economy.

These collaborations aim to drive innovation, enhance competitiveness, and create new opportunities for growth in the digital sphere by leveraging each other&rsquo;s strengths and expertise.

These partnerships have resulted in engagements worth over RM150 million, underscoring the programme&rsquo;s pivotal role in promoting Malaysian technology and innovation on the global stage.

Reflecting on the achievements of previous DEX Connex events in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, over 150 companies participated, leading to the exchange of 29 MoUs and MoAs. This has generated more than RM600 million in potential opportunities for Malaysian tech companies in these markets.

MDEC SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES THE FINAL CHAPTER OF DEX CONNEX 2024 IN VIETNAM

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 November 2024 &ndash; The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) proudly celebrated the success of Cohort 3 of its Digital Tourism Innovation Lab (DTIL), a groundbreaking programme designed to accelerate digital transformation in Malaysia&rsquo;s tourism sector. This year&rsquo;s DTIL featured a series of exciting pitches from travel and tourism technology startups, each presenting game-changing solutions aimed at reshaping the future of tourism in Malaysia. The event aligns with the Ministry of Digital&rsquo;s vision to position Malaysia as a digital leader in the region.

&nbsp;

DTIL is more than a programme; it is a platform that builds and supports a thriving tourism tech ecosystem, catalysing new innovations to meet industry needs, drive digitalisation, and elevate Malaysia&rsquo;s tourism offerings. Since its launch, DTIL has received an overwhelming response, with 117 applications over three cohorts. Of these, 24 companies were selected for an intensive 8-week programme that included mentorship, funding opportunities, and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Through this collaborative environment, participants worked alongside industry experts to develop innovative solutions that can significantly impact Malaysia&rsquo;s tourism industry and local communities.

Held at Common Ground Bukit Bintang, the event marked a successful collaboration between MDEC and accelerator partner 1337 Ventures, drawing the attendance of high-profile leaders and key figures within Malaysia&rsquo;s tourism and digital sectors. The representative from the Ministry of Digital presented certificates to the 24 participating companies and highlighted the programme&rsquo;s impact. Several DTIL participants have already attracted funding from angel investors and VCs, while others reported increased revenues and successful expansions into regional markets.

Tourism is a vital pillar of Malaysia&#39;s economy, with substantial potential to further boost the nation&rsquo;s GDP. Global forecasts indicated that travel and tourism&rsquo;s total GDP contribution will reach USD16 trillion by 2034, or 11.4% of the global economy, according to Statista. Key technology investments in travel and mobility between 2018 and 2024 have included AI, IoT, Immersive Tech, Blockchain, Web3, and Quantum Computing &ndash; areas where Malaysia is poised to make its mark. With Visit Malaysia Year 2026 on the horizon, MDEC&rsquo;s DTIL initiative is a timely step in transforming Malaysia&rsquo;s tourism sector into a model for digital innovation in the region.

DIGITAL TOURISM INNOVATION LAB COHORT 3: MDEC PAVES THE WAY FOR A TECH-DRIVEN TOURISM FUTURE

ALOR SETAR, KEDAH - 10 NOVEMBER 2024 - Perbadanan Ekonomi Digital Malaysia (MDEC), agensi peneraju ekonomi digital negara di bawah seliaan Kementerian Digital (KD), menganjurkan program Jelajah Saya Digital (JSD) di Aman Central, Alor Setar.

Program berlangsung selama dua hari, bermula pada 9 hingga 10 November dengan anggaran seramai 2,000 pengunjung diadakan bagi memberi pendedahan kepada rakyat tentang kemahiran literasi serta peluang yang boleh dimanfaatkan dalam dunia digital.

Program JSD merupakan lanjutan dari Kempen Saya Digital yang diperkenalkan pada tahun 2020, bertujuan memperkasakan rakyat Malaysia dengan kemahiran digital bagi menghadapi cabaran ekonomi digital yang semakin berkembang pesat. Inisiatif ini juga selaras dengan aspirasi kerajaan negeri Kedah untuk mewujudkan negeri berpendapatan tinggi dan maju melalui pembangunan ekonomi yang holistik menjelang 2035.

Selaras dengan hasrat Kementerian Digital yang memfokuskan tiga teras utama iaitu&nbsp;Kerajaan Digital, Ekonomi Digital dan Masyarakat Digital, JSD menjadi platform untuk membantu meningkatkan kemahiran digital rakyat Malaysia. Inisiatif ini adalah sebahagian usaha kerajaan mendayaupayakan rakyat di samping mempromosikan penyelesaian gaya hidup pintar berasaskan teknologi digital. Seterusnya, menarik pelaburan bernilai tinggi secara langsung memajukan kehidupan pintar serta meningkatkan bilangan profesional mahir yang menekankan pada set kemahiran dalam era ini.

Program JSD menumpukan kepada empat teras utamanya iaitu Saya Digital Literasi, Saya Digital Bisnes, Saya Digital Freelance, dan Saya Digital Kerjaya di mana ia memberi manfaat kepada golongan sasaran seperti B40, graduan menganggur, warga emas, orang kelainan upaya (OKU), pelajar sekolah dan universiti, serta usahawan mikro, kecil, dan sederhana (PMKS). Dengan mengambil peluang yang ada, para peserta dapat memainkan peranan penting dalam memperkukuhkan ekonomi digital negara.

Sejak JSD diperkenalkan pada tahun 2020, jumlah penyertaan telah mencapai 55,568 pesertamelalui acara fizikal dan dalam talian secara keseluruhan. Untuk tahun ini, MDEC telah mensasarkan seramai 40,000 peserta untuk menyertai program JSD di 31 lokasi seluruh negara.

Menerusi JSD, MDEC juga telah melaksanakan beberapa program lain antaranya program eUsahawan dan MyDigitalMaker. Dalam program eUsahawan, seramai 564,629 pelajar Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (IPT), pelajar Pendidikan dan Latihan Teknikal dan Vokasional (TVET) dan usahawan di seluruh negara, berjaya mencapai jualan terkumpul melebihi RM1.26 bilion. Dari jumlah itu, seramai 39,609 usahawan dari Kedah telah berjaya menyumbang lebih RM50.59 juta. Sementara itu, menerusi program MyDigitalMaker pula, ia telah memberi impak kepada lebih 2.5 juta pelajar sekolah di seluruh negara melalui penglibatan dalam aktiviti pembuatan digital. Sejak diperkenalkan pada 2016, seramai 95,000 murid daripada 450 sekolah di Kedah telah terlibat secara langsung dalam program MyDigitalMaker melibatkan 110 sekolah di Alor Setar.

Di program JSD @ Alor Setar kali ini terdapat beberapa sesi perkongsian menarik yang memfokuskan kepada penggunaan media sosial dari sisi positif oleh selebriti dan pempengaruh Ajak Shiro. Selain itu, para usahawan PMKS berpeluang mempelajari panduan praktikal mengenai teknik gerak laju pemasaran digital dan penggunaan aplikasi TikTok untuk memprluaskan capaian serta meningkatkan hasil jualan.

Acara menarik lain termasuk siaran langsung program eSukan yang melibatkan lebih 300 penyertaan, di samping sesi perkongsian teknologi Kecerdasan Buatan (AI) untuk pembelajaran yang lebih efektif. MDX SUMMIT 2024 CHAMPIONS MALAYSIA’S DIGITAL LEADERSHIP AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

CYBERJAYA, 17 October 2024 &ndash; The Malaysia Pavilion, held at the major global gaming event, Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024, successfully concluded with more than 150 business meetings were conducted between the Malaysian and Japanese gaming companies, with potential sales of USD67.11 million. TGS 2024 hosted a record-high number of 274, 739 visitors, 985 companies and organisations from 44 countries and regions during the four-day event.

This year, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) partnered with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) to create collaboration opportunities for Malaysian game developers at the Malaysia Pavilion.

THE MALAYSIA PAVILION AT TOKYO GAME SHOW 2024 SEES POTENTIAL EXPORT VALUE OF USD67.11 MILLION

KUCHING, 16 October 2024: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), in partnership with the Sarawak government via its implementing agency, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) is excited to announce the launch of the DE Rantau Sarawak during the opening ceremony of International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2024. This significant milestone was announced by YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, the Premier of Sarawak. The event was also attended by YBrs Tuan Ma. Sivanesan A/L Marimuthu, Deputy Secretary-General (Digital Development), Ministry of Digital, and YBrs Anuar Fariz Fadzil, Chief Executive Officer of MDEC.

The DE Rantau Sarawak is part of the broader Sarawak Digital Residency Programme (SDRP), inspired by Estonia&#39;s E-Residency model. The SDRP aims to attract digital professionals to work and live in Sarawak. SDRP&rsquo;s first phase introduces the DE Rantau Sarawak, a Professional Visit Pass (PVP) which allows digital freelancers and remote workers to stay in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia for up to 12 months, with an option for a renewal of another 12 months. The application for DE Rantau Sarawak will be open in Q1 2025.

While working remotely, this pass enables global tech talents to experience working remotely from both Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, while experiencing Malaysia&rsquo;s rich culture, stunning landscapes, and modern infrastructure.

DE Rantau, which is a Malaysia Digital initiative, aims to position Malaysia as Southeast Asia&#39;s preferred destination for digital nomads while promoting digital adoption and tourism nationwide. Since its inception in 2022, the DE Rantau Nomad Pass has been enhanced to include non-tech professionals, broadening access for global talents wishing to work remotely from Malaysia. As of 14th October 2024, DE Rantau has received 4059 digital nomad pass applications, out of which, 1,988 has been approved. The top 5 nationalities of DE Rantau Nomad Pass holders are from Russia, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Japan and United States of America. 40% of DE Rantau Nomad Pass holders are here in Malaysia with their family members.

The programme also boasts a robust ecosystem with 2,076 certified DE Rantau Hubs that offer strategic locations, high-speed internet connectivity, and work-friendly amenities. MDEC has partnered with 15 ecosystem partners across various sectors, including transport, tourism, cashless services, healthcare, insurance, car rentals and co-working spaces.

Officiated by YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, and YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC, the MYDCF Biz Day 2024 highlighted Malaysia&rsquo;s ambition to become a leading regional digital creative hub by 2030. The event attracted over 1,000 participants from countries including Malaysia, South Korea, India, China, Japan, Iran, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, and featured more than 100 speakers from North America, Europe, Australia, and the region. A significant highlight of MYDCF Biz Day 2024 was the SEA Awards 2024, a prestigious event that recognised the best digital content creators across Southeast Asia. The SEA Awards 2024 encompassed three key categories:

	<li style="text-align:justify">SEA Kre8tif! Awards&mdash;This category received 147 regional submissions, with nine awards celebrating achievements in animation and creative content. Notable winners included Rawr Pictures, whose &nbsp;&nbsp;project The Muralz&mdash;Year of the Flying Dragon, swept multiple categories, including Best Audio Design and Best Animation Motion Graphics. </li>
	<li style="text-align:justify">26th DigiCon6 Asia Malaysia Circuit&mdash;This year&rsquo;s competition received 49 submissions, with three awards recognising Malaysian creators for their exceptional storytelling and creativity.</li>

TOKYO, JAPAN 26 September 2024 &ndash; The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), in partnership with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), proudly launched the Malaysia Pavilion at the prestigious Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024) today. This marks MDEC&#39;s eighth consecutive year participating in the globally renowned gaming event, further underscoring Malaysia&rsquo;s commitment to becoming a leader in the digital and gaming industry.

&nbsp;

The Malaysia Pavilion serves as a platform for 10 leading Malaysian gaming companies to showcase their innovative offerings to the global market, including opportunities for collaboration with international game developers, content creators, and technology companies. A total of 985 companies around the world are showcasing their gaming products and services throughout the four (4) day event from 26 to 29 September 2024.

Some of the key activities at the Malaysia Pavilion include high level meetings, business matching and networking with Japanese game publishers and tech incubators namely Bandai Namco studio, Nintendo, IMDA Singapore and many more.

The global digital content and gaming market is projected to generate USD 187.7 billion in 2024, marking a 2.1% increase from the previous year, according to Newzoo Global Games Market Report. Amid this, the outlook for Malaysia&#39;s digital content exports, especially in gaming, to Japan in 2024 shows great potential. With the support from MDEC and MATRADE and the commitment to expanding Malaysia&rsquo;s footprint in global markets, particularly in Japan, Malaysian developers and animation studios are gaining more international recognition.&nbsp;

Since its inception in 2020, the programme has successfully facilitated over USD 300 million in capital matching, significantly supporting the growth of Malaysia&#39;s digital economy.

&nbsp;

Aligned with the Malaysia Digital national strategic initiative, the programme is designed to create a more accessible investment landscape, simplifying capital access for startups, driving innovation, and contributing to the nation&#39;s digital transformation goals. Through the Investor Matching Programme, startups are strategically paired with investors based on specific criteria, such as investment amount and industry focus, ensuring tailored and effective partnerships. Beyond investment opportunities, the programme provides valuable mentorship from experienced investors, accelerating the growth of participating startups.

In the past year, the programme received funding requests totalling USD 171 million from 178 companies, successfully matching 107 startups with over 70 investors, achieving a success rate of 60%. This year, over 80 institutional investors and venture capitalists have joined the programme, further strengthening the funding ecosystem. Venture capital continues to be a crucial driver in the startup ecosystem, providing essential funding to help tech companies scale and succeed.

MDEC FUNDING FACILITATION OPENS GATEWAY TO CAPITAL THROUGH INVESTOR MATCHING PROGRAMME

TEMERLOH, PAHANG - 21 SEPTEMBER 2024 - Perbadanan Ekonomi Digital Malaysia (MDEC), agensi peneraju ekonomi digital negara di bawah Kementerian Digital (KD), hari ini menganjurkan siri ke-19 program Jelajah Saya Digital (JSD) bagi tahun 2024, bertempat di Semantan Walk, Bandar Sri Semantan, Temerloh. Program kali ini dianjurkan bersama Pahang Go Sdn Bhd sebagai Rakan Pelaksana untuk penganjuran JSD di negeri Pahang. Program dua hari ini berlangsung dari 21 hingga 22 September dan dijangka menarik kira-kira 2,000 pengunjung.

Seiring dengan hasrat Kementerian Digital yang memfokuskan kepada tiga teras utama iaitu Kerajaan Digital, Ekonomi Digital dan Masyarakat Digital, JSD adalah kesinambungan daripada Kempen Saya Digital yang diperkenalkan pada tahun 2020. Ia &nbsp;bertujuan untuk membantu meningkatkan kemahiran digital rakyat Malaysia dalam mendepani cabaran ekonomi digital. 

&nbsp;

Inisiatif ini merupakan salah satu usaha kerajaan untuk memperkasakan rakyat dalam menangani kos sara hidup, sambil meningkatkan kesedaran tentang kepentingan teknologi digital dan penyelesaian gaya hidup pintar. Langkah ini juga selari dengan tonggak Pelan Digital Pahang 2021-2025, yang bertujuan menjadikan Pahang sebagai hab ekonomi dinamik melalui penggunaan teknologi digital, seterusnya menarik pelaburan bernilai tinggi dan menawarkan peluang pekerjaan berpendapatan tinggi, terutamanya kepada bakat muda tempatan.

Program JSD menumpukan kepada empat teras utamanya iaitu Saya Digital Literasi, Saya Digital Bisnes, Saya Digital Freelance, dan Saya Digital Kerjaya di mana ia memberi manfaat kepada B40, graduan menganggur, warga emas, orang kelainan upaya (OKU), pelajar sekolah dan universiti, serta usahawan mikro, kecil, dan sederhana (PMKS). Dengan mengambil peluang yang ada, golongan sasaran ini dapat memainkan peranan penting dalam perkembangan ekonomi digital negara.

Tahun ini, MDEC menyasarkan seramai 40,000 peserta akan menyertai program JSD di 31 lokasi. Setakat ini seramai 37,891 rakyat dari seluruh negara telah menyertainya acara secara fizikal dan atas talian malah mendapat manfaat daripadanya menerusi. Daripada jumlah itu, seramai 1,004 peserta adalah dari negeri Pahang.

Dalam program eUsahawan, seramai 564,629 pelajar Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (IPT), pelajar Pendidikan dan Latihan Teknikal dan Vokasional (TVET) dan usahawan di seluruh negara, dengan mencapai jualan terkumpul melebihi RM1.26 bilion. Dari jumlah itu, seramai 27,495 usahawan dari Pahang telah berjaya menjana jualan terkumpul melebihi RM46.61juta. Sementara itu, program MyDigitalMaker pula telah memberi impak kepada lebih 32,000 pelajar sekolah di seluruh negeri Pahang melalui penglibatan dalam aktiviti pembuatan digital.

Pelbagai aktiviti menarik diadakan sepanjang program JSD @ Temerloh, termasuk sesi perkongsian Kesedaran Keselamatan Siber oleh PDRM. Bagi usahawan PMKS, terdapat demonstrasi praktikal seperti teknik pemasaran digital pantas dan cara menggunakan aplikasi TikTok untuk meningkatkan jangkauan serta hasil jualan.

Siaran langsung program e-Sukan kali ini turut menarik lebih 300 penyertaan, di samping pelbagai acara lain seperti pertandingan karaoke dan cabutan bertuah. Selaras dengan Pelan Digital Pahang yang menekankan kepentingan literasi digital, sesi perkongsian yang memberi tumpuan kepada warga emas mengenai tren Kecerdasan Buatan (AI) dan penggunaan aplikasi digital untuk memantau kesihatan juga menjadi tarikan utama di JSD kali ini.

MDEC LAUNCHES AI SUMMIT TO ACCELERATE BUSINESS TECH ADOPTION AND DRIVE INDUSTRY 4.0 TRANSFORMATION

CYBERJAYA, 9 September 2024: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Digital Malaysia, has announced the opening of applications for three key grants: the Digital Content Grant (DCG) for 2024/2025, the Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG), and the Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG). These grants, available from 9 September 2024, are part of the MADANI government&#39;s ongoing commitment to enhance Malaysia&#39;s digital economy.

&nbsp;

Digital Content Grant (DCG) 2024/2025

Since 2016, the DCG has been instrumental in supporting Malaysian creative content companies, enabling the development, production, and commercialisation of digital content across various sectors, including animation, digital games, digital comics, and creative technology. 

&nbsp;

The DCG 2024/2025 consists of three (3) types of different grants aimed at various digital content producers:

&nbsp;

	<li>Mini Grant: This grant is aimed to support the development, production, and commercialisation of digital content products with a ceiling amount of RM150,000.00 per grant recipient. 
	&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Prime Grant: This grant supports the development, production, and commercialisation of digital content products, with a ceiling amount of RM500,000.00 per grant recipient. 
	&nbsp;</li>
	<li>Marketing &amp; Commercialisation Grant: This grant supports commercialising digital content products, with a ceiling amount of RM300,000.00 per grant recipient. </li>
</ol>

&nbsp;

Eligible applicants for the Mini Grant include local digital content companies, enterprises, sole proprietorships, partnerships, and limited liability partnerships. Prime and Marketing &amp; Commercialisation Grants are available for any local company incorporated in Malaysia with a minimum of 51% Malaysian, issued share capital of RM20,000.00 and with the Malaysia Digital (MD) Status and/or the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) Status. Malaysia Digital Catalyst Grant (MDCG)

The MDCG offers up to RM1 million or 50% of project costs, whichever is lower, to drive innovation in Malaysia&rsquo;s digital sector. Focused on fostering scalable, high-impact solutions, the grant supports projects within the Malaysia Digital (MD) Promoted Sectors for up to one year. 

&nbsp;

Since 2021, MDCG has been awarded to 59 companies, leading to advancements such as a cloud-based defect management system and a manufacturing resource plan that boosted Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) operations. These projects highlight digital innovation&rsquo;s transformative impact on Malaysia&rsquo;s digital champions.

&nbsp;

Malaysia Digital Export Grant (MDXG) 

The MDXG, which also offers up to RM1 million or 50% of project costs, supports Malaysian companies poised for global expansion through high-value technological activities. With a project duration of up to one year, MDXG has facilitated international growth, including promoting a local homegrown company with blockchain-based electric vehicle app across Southeast Asia and deploying 5G network-powered IoT solutions for ATM protection in global markets.

&nbsp;

MDCG and MDXG are exclusively available to local or foreign-owned companies with the MD status. Companies that have yet to attain MD status are encouraged to apply, as this recognition opens the door to numerous strategic advantages. By securing MD status, companies gain prioritised access to MDEC&rsquo;s comprehensive support network, greater visibility within the digital economy, and valuable opportunities for collaboration and growth within Malaysia&rsquo;s forward-looking digital ecosystem.

To provide further information. MDEC will host two briefing sessions for the DCG on 11 and 24 September 2024, and three sessions for the MDCG and MDXG on 12 and 18 September, and the last one on 2 October 2024.

MDEC OPENS APPLICATION FOR 2024 DIGITAL GRANTS

CYBERJAYA, 28 August 2024: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) today announced the completion of Datuk Ts. Mahadhir Aziz&rsquo;s successful three-year tenure as CEO, concluding on 31 August 2024. As Datuk Mahadhir transitions to new challenges and opportunities, his departure paves the way for future transformation at MDEC, building on the strong foundation of the transformative era he led.

Since assuming the role in September 2021, Datuk Mahadhir has played a pivotal role in solidifying MDEC&#39;s position as a leader in Malaysia&#39;s digital ecosystem and expanding its reach into new and emerging markets. Under his leadership, MDEC achieved significant milestones, including securing over RM 170 billion in digital investments and creating more than 85,000 technology jobs. He was also instrumental in transforming the MSC initiative into Malaysia Digital (MD), driving strategic digital investments, and launching key national programmes such as the digital nomad visa. His tenure saw MDEC surpass key targets, including the adoption of e-Commerce by over 1.5 million MSMEs and recording RM144 billion in digitalisation investments.

As Datuk Mahadhir steps down to pursue new opportunities, MDEC remains focused on maintaining its strategic direction. A Management Council has been established to oversee the CEO&rsquo;s responsibilities during the interim period until a new CEO is appointed.

The Board and Management ensure a smooth transition to the new leadership. The Board extends its deepest gratitude to Datuk Mahadhir for his leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to MDEC. KUALA TERENGGANU, 26 August 2024: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) proudly introduces the DE Rantau@Terengganu, the latest destination for digital nomads seeking tranquillity and cultural richness in Malaysia. Nestled on the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Terengganu offers a unique blend of serene beaches, rich cultural heritage, and natural beauty, making it the perfect escape for digital nomads seeking to rejuvenate.

The launch at Kampung Budaya Terengganu was officiated by YB Datuk Razali Idris, the Terengganu State Executive Council for Tourism, Culture, and Environment, representing YAB Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, alongside the Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital, YBhg. Tuan Fabian Bigar and YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC. Terengganu joins five other DE Rantau locations launched in 2022: Penang, Langkawi, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, and Perak.

The DE Rantau programme aims to position Malaysia as Southeast Asia&#39;s preferred digital nomad destination whilst driving digital adoption and tourism nationwide. Since its introduction in 2022, the DE Rantau Nomad Pass, an immigration facility created specifically for foreign digital nomads, has also been improved. It is now accessible to non-tech professionals, enabling a broader range of global talents to experience working remotely from Malaysia.

&nbsp;

Additionally, the requirement for submitting a Bank Guarantee for citizens of China and Bangladesh has been replaced with the option of either a security bond or a personal bond. This adjustment reflects MDEC&#39;s commitment to making Malaysia more accessible and welcoming to global digital nomads. The DE Rantau Nomad Pass has received over 3,500 applications, with 1,741 applications approved.

&nbsp;

The programme also offers a vibrant ecosystem with 2,183 DE Rantau Hubs, which are accommodations certified by MDEC for their strategic and safe locations, high-speed broadband connectivity, and work-friendly amenities. Furthermore, MDEC has partnered with 16 DE Rantau Ecosystem Partners in various sectors such as transport, tourism, cashless services, healthcare, insurance, and co-working spaces.

The DE Rantau@Terengganu launch was made special with a Familiarisation Trip (Fam Trip) organised by the Terengganu State Tourism Department and MDEC. Over three days and two nights, forty local and foreign digital nomads and their family members will be taken to several major tourist spots, including the Terengganu Drawbridge, the Terengganu River Cruise, Kapas Island, the Crystal Mosque, Payang Market, and other significant attractions in Kuala Terengganu.

The ceremony was graced by the MDEC Chairman, YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, together with YB Haji Mohd Nurkhuzaini bin Ab Rahman, Chairman of the State Digital Economy, New Income, Trade, Industry and Green Technology Committee, who also chairs TD1303. Also present was the TD1303 General Manager, YBrs. Tuan Ezree Esmadee.

The opening of this satellite office marks MDEC&#39;s commitment to strengthening its presence on the East Coast and ensuring that all Malaysians can enjoy the benefits of the digital economy. JOHOR BAHRU, 27 Julai 2024 - Perbadanan Ekonomi Digital Malaysia (MDEC), agensi peneraju ekonomi digital negara di bawah seliaan Kementerian Digital (KD), hari ini menganjurkan siri program Jelajah Saya Digital (JSD) bertempat di Angsana Mall, Johor Bahru, Johor, selama dua hari bermula 26 hingga 27 Julai dengan anggaran pengunjung seramai 2,000 orang.

Selaras dengan aspirasi kerajaan negeri menerusi Maju Johor 2030 yang memastikan ekonomi negeri berdaya tahan demi kemakmuran rakyat Johor antaranya dengan transfomasi terhadap inisiatif digital, program JSD bertepatan dalam membuka peluang kepada masyarakat tempatan untuk meningkatkan kemahiran digital mereka, di samping melahirkan lebih ramai generasi celik digital.

Kempen Saya Digital diperkenalkan pada akhir tahun 2020 bagi membantu meningkatkan kemahiran digital rakyat Malaysia dalam mendepani cabaran dunia digitalisasi. Inisiatif ini juga sebagai satu usaha dalam mendayaupayakan rakyat untuk menangani kos sara hidup melalui penggunaan platform digital.

Melalui kempen ini juga, ianya dijangka dapat mewujudkan kesedaran rakyat tempatan tentang kepentingan teknologi digital dan penyelesaian gaya hidup pintar dengan memberi peluang sama rata kepada rakyat di kawasan bandar tanpa meninggalkan penduduk di luar bandar.

JSD adalah sebuah inisiatif yang memberi tumpuan kepada empat teras utama iaitu, Saya Digital Literasi, Saya Digital Bisnes, Saya Digital Freelance, dan Saya Digital Kerjaya yang memberi manfaat kepada golongan sasar iaitu B40, graduan menganggur, warga emas, orang kelainan upaya, pelajar sekolah, serta universiti termasuk usahawan mikro, kecil, dan sederhana.

Beberapa program disediakan oleh MDEC menerusi program JSD. Antaranya adalah program eUsahawan dan MyDigitalMaker. Melalui program eUsahawan ini MDEC berjaya melatih seramai 564,629 pelajar Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (IPT), pelajar Pendidikan dan Latihan Teknikal dan Vokasional (TVET) dan usahawan di seluruh negara dengan menjana jualan terkumpul melebihi RM1.26 bilion. 

 
Setakat Jun 2024, program JSD ini telah menjelajahi ke 68 lokasi dan berjaya melatih seramai 27,154 peserta dari seluruh negara, sejak diperkenalkan pada akhir 2020 dan bagi tahun ini juga MDEC menyasarkan seramai 40,000 peserta untuk menyertai program JSD di 31 lokasi.

Antara aktiviti menarik yang dijalankan termasuk sesi perkongsian oleh MDEC dan rakan strategik, klinik literasi digital dan siber, sesi latihan, gerai pameran, serta aktiviti menarik lain seperti cabutan bertuah, dan pertandingan eSports. Hadirin turut menerima manfaat dari sesi perkongsian mengenai aplikasi robotik dan teknologi AI di dalam pendidikan serta tips keselamatan untuk mengelakkan penipuan di alam siber.

TRANSFORMING MALAYSIA’S TOURISM: MDEC UNLEASHES INNOVATION THROUGH THE DIGITAL TOURISM INNOVATION LAB

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 JULY 2024 &ndash; The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the nation&rsquo;s lead digital economy agency and the Peppol Authority in Malaysia, launched the inaugural National e-Invoicing Open Day &amp; Accreditation Ceremony, marking a significant milestone towards digitalising business processes. 

&nbsp;

Officiated by Yang Berhormat Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, this landmark event by MDEC aims to empower businesses by facilitating the adoption of e-Invoicing solutions, after having championed the e-Invoicing initiative to accelerate the nation&rsquo;s digital transformation since 2020. It serves as a platform for businesses to explore and consult with various e-Invoicing solution providers, helping them identify the most suitable solutions to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

&nbsp;

The ceremony also honoured the very first cohort of 31 Malaysia Peppol Service Providers (SP) and four Peppol-Ready Solution Providers (PRSP). These accredited e-Invoicing service providers creates a pool of trusted partners for businesses, allowing them to explore various e-Invoicing solutions that streamline both system-to-system e-Invoice exchange and ensure compliance with tax regulations. 

&nbsp;

Peppol SPs are access points that function as the gateway to the Peppol network, securely connecting businesses and routing e-Invoices to the intended recipients. PRSPs, on the other hand, is an accounting software, ERP system or e-Invoice platforms that can send and receive e-Invoice in Peppol format that connects with the Peppol network through an access point.

&nbsp;

Last year, Malaysia became the 21st Peppol Authority, and as of April 2024, OpenPeppol ranked Malaysia in the Top 10 for the number of Peppol members. This achievement highlights the strong interest in e-Invoicing adoption by businesses in Malaysia, driven by the mandate for tax compliance. The Peppol framework, the most widely implemented e-Invoicing framework globally, consists of technical specifications that enable systematic interoperability between disparate systems, facilitating seamless e-Invoice exchange. The accreditation ceremony is the start for the Peppol community with the SP and PRSP.

&nbsp;

&ldquo;As the designated Peppol Authority in Malaysia, MDEC is actively accrediting organisations to facilitate their operations within the country. As of June 2024, MDEC has received over 150 applications for SP and PRSP accreditation. This initiative, formalised by the accreditation ceremony, forms the foundation of Malaysia&#39;s e-Invoicing community, leveraging the Peppol framework.&rdquo; said Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of MDEC.&nbsp; 

&nbsp;

With the digital economy GDP projected to reach 25.5% by 2025, this initiative is poised to bolster this growth, benefiting businesses of all sizes. The adoption of e-Invoicing is also projected to boost tax revenue contribution to between <a href="https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/704748">14% and 15%</a> of GDP once fully implemented across all businesses by 1 July 2025.

recognised as Malaysia Digital (MD) status companies and grant recipients from MDEC.

MDEC CEO, Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, commended the selection of the animated feature film

&quot;Batik Girl&quot;, developed by R&amp;D Studios, as one of eight projects chosen for the &quot;Meet the

Producer&quot; session.

This marks a first for Malaysia, as the film was selected from thousands of submissions

worldwide, competing with producers from Hong Kong, Singapore, and various European

countries.

Another Malaysian studio, Metal Brain, has achieved a significant reach with their IP &quot;Oko

Lele,&quot; garnering over 4 billion views and exceeding 6 million subscribers across more

than 20 YouTube channels.

The studio is currently in the pipeline of producing a game for &quot;Oko Lele,&quot; with a projected

launch on Playstore platforms in Q3 or Q4 of this year.

MALAYSIA’S NEW MD TAX INCENTIVE: FUELING DIGITAL GROWTH

MDEC ANNOUNCES MALAYSIA DIGITAL PDTI OUTSTANDING AWARD WINNERS 2023 EDITION

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 March 2024 - In a bid to foster innovation and drive digital transformation, Ministry of Digital through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced a call for submissions for two incentive programmes, the Brand Metaverse Onboarding Programme and Immersive IP Experiences Programme which aim to accelerate the integration of Malaysian brands and intellectual properties (IP) into the metaverse, offering substantial financial support of up to RM200,000 per project.

&nbsp;

YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, the Minister of Digital reveals the incentive programmes during the MDEC Digital Creative Industry Day, an annual gathering that brings together professionals in the digital content and creative technology field. The event features the 2024 Digital Content Industry Updates by MDEC which includes market access programmes, grants and related support of industry through Malaysia Digital Content Festival and the IMMERSE KL, LEVEL UP KL and KRe8tif! industry platform.

&nbsp;

Under the Brand Metaverse Onboarding Programme, eligible companies can access incentive of up to RM100,000 to develop immersive and experiential virtual world content tailored for Malaysian brands. The scope of projects spans the creation of diverse digital assets, experiences, and environments within the metaverse. From 3D models to interactive multimedia presentations and games, this initiative aims to enhance user experiences and interactions within the virtual universe.

Additionally, the Immersive IP Experiences Programme offers incentive of up to RM200,000 per project, targeting the expansion of top Malaysian IPs to a wider audience through existing Web2/Web3 centralised metaverses. Successful applicants will be tasked with creating a minimum of 10 minutes of immersive content featuring characters and settings based on partner Malaysian IPs.

These incentive programmes aim to empower digital content creators, stimulate the development of intellectual property-related content within the metaverse, and catalyse digital transformation in the business sector. By offering financial support and promoting the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, MDEC is dedicated to advancing Malaysia&#39;s digital ecosystem.

KapitalX2 Programme to Develop More Venture Professionals in Malaysia 

Penjana Kapital and Venture University are collaborating to launch Malaysia&rsquo;s first venture capital (&ldquo;VC&rdquo;) senior executive talent development programme targeted at mid-level professionals, KapitalX2. The programme is also supported by Crewstone International, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (&ldquo;MDEC&rdquo;) and Malaysian Venture Capital &amp; Private Equity Association (&ldquo;MVCA&rdquo;).

The programme is a continuation of the first programme, KapitalX, in collaboration with Sunway iLabs which had concluded in November 2022 that focused on juniors and fresh graduates. 32 KapitalX participants had successfully completed the programme upon undergoing a 5-week classroom training and a 1-month venture fellowship with 14 venture capital management companies. The KapitalX programme is Penjana Kapital&rsquo;s flagship talent development programme established to develop venture capital talents with the competencies to be world-class investors.

To be launched on 10 July 2023, KapitalX2 aims to equip participants, comprising of experienced entrepreneurs and finance professionals, with a detailed overview of the VC ecosystem, including real-time practical application and networking opportunities. The programme aims to create a robust pipeline of mid to senior-level talents that boosts the VC ecosystem in Malaysia. This is aligned with Penjana Kapital&#39;s objective of building the Malaysian VC ecosystem, as part of the Malaysian government&#39;s initiative to accelerate the development of a future innovation economy.

This 4-month programme is an industry agnostic course that is open to (i) experienced entrepreneurs who have built a start-up, who are also keen on investing in other start-ups as a VC fund manager, and (ii) senior investment professionals with investment management experience in one or more asset classes (i.e., Equity, Fixed Income, Private Equity (&ldquo;PE&rdquo;), VC), who are keen on managing a VC investment fund.

&ldquo;The KapitalX2 programme will ensure we create a consistent pipeline of VC talent, and complements Penjana Kapital&rsquo;s public-private co-investment programme that seeks to crowd-in private capital, managed by private sector VC firms in the country. A VC industry that is sustainable can only be built if we can simultaneously address both human capital and financial capital shortage gaps. As more funding &ndash; both public and private - flows into VC, the industry needs an even bigger talent pool.&rdquo; said Taufiq Iskandar, Chief Executive Officer of Penjana Kapital.

30 carefully chosen participants will be selected from a pool of applicants for the programme. The programme includes over 60+ hours of course work, including a two-week VC Masterclass and Advanced VC Modules, as well as Startup Pitches and weekly Fireside Chats. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the VC world from Venture University&#39;s management team alongside a highly curated panel of local industry professionals. Learnings include deal sourcing, due diligence, financial modelling, investment term sheets and documents, valuation, cap tables, waterfall analysis, M&amp;A / IPO, raising a VC fund, Corporate VC, managing a Board of Directors, etc. The programme will conclude with a internal reverse demo day on the final week where participants will present their investment recommendations and compete for awards presented during a graduation ceremony.

In 2022, the number of VC and PE professionals in Malaysia declined by 33% year-on-year to 229 from 344. This is after an impressive growth of 97% in 2021, which coincided with the strong performance and liquidity in the VC space. Furthermore, comparing with other developed VC markets, Malaysia still lacks sufficient VC professionals in order to have a vibrant VC space.

CYBERJAYA, 5 April 2023: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia&#39;s leading digital economy agency, has announced the launch of the 2023 Digital Content Creators Challenge (DC3).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Since its inception in 2006, DC3 has been a highly successful platform under the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) that offers seed funding to creative content developers. The goal is to create portfolios or intellectual properties (IPs) that can be pitched to investors, broadcasters, and publishers to obtain further funding.&nbsp;

Over the years, MDEC has funded 372 projects and disbursed RM15.8 million in prize money to the winners. DC3 is a competition-based program designed to assist content creators in developing and producing world-class digital content while also increasing the creation of intellectual property (IP).&nbsp;

Digital content has been identified as one of the nine promoted sectors under the national strategic initiative, Malaysia Digital (MD). The winners of DC3 2023 will receive prize money to develop their proposed digital creative content, with the support of industry experts through a mentorship program. This would provide the necessary catalysts for local talents to penetrate the local and global market.&nbsp;

&ldquo;As we move towards an increasingly digital future, the role of content creators in shaping our collective experiences and narratives cannot be overstated. The DC3 2023 showcases the creativity, resilience, and potential of Malaysian digital content creators. MDEC is proud to support and champion this initiative, nurturing a thriving ecosystem of creators driving innovation and growth for Malaysia&#39;s creative industries.&quot; said Ts. The programme is open to digital content creation companies and is divided into four categories, namely, digital comic, animation, interactive media, and digital games.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Under the digital comic category, winners will receive a prize money of up to RM25,000 and six months to complete their project.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Meanwhile, winners from the animation category will receive a prize money of up to RM100,000 and eight months to complete their project. Interactive Media and Digital games producers will receive up to RM100,000 for each category and ten months to complete their project.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Among the notable past DC3 projects include the &ldquo;Legends of Ancient Borneo&rdquo; by All for One Productions, who received Best Digital Animation Film by Malaysia Digital Film Award 2019 and Best Animated Short Film by Great Message International Film Festival 2019. The project is now in early development for an animated series, target to complete production by 2023. This is the first animated film in Kadazan language and one of the ways to pay tribute to the Sabah&rsquo;s native heritage and culture.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Cramped Death by Wombatman Games was a finalist for the Best Design category in Indie Game Show Award as featured in the Taipei Game Show 2020. The game was recently launched and is published on Steam and Nintendo Switch.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sejak diperkenalkan pada tahun 2006, DC3 telah menjadi platform di bawah Kementerian Komunikasi dan Digital (KKD) yang berjaya menawarkan pembiayaan awal kepada pencipta kandungan kreatif. Matlamatnya adalah bagi mewujudkan portfolio atau harta intelek (IP) yang boleh menarik perhatian pelabur dan penerbit dalam sektor penyiaran bagi mendapatkan pembiayaan selanjutnya.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Untuk rekod, sehingga kini, MDEC telah membiayai sebanyak 372 projek dan mengagihkan sejumlah RM15.8 juta hadiah wang kepada pemenang. Pertandingan ini terbuka kepada syarikat-syarikat pencipta kandungan digital tempatan dan dibahagikan kepada empat kategori iaitu Komik Digital, Animasi, Media Interaktif dan Permainan Digital.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Di bawah kategori Komik Digital, pemenang akan menerima hadiah wang tunai sehingga RM25,000 dan enam bulan untuk menyiapkan projek mereka. Sementara itu, pemenang bagi kategori Animasi pula akan menerima hadiah wang tunai sehingga RM100,000 dan lapan bulan untuk menyiapkan projek mereka manakala bagi kategori Media Interaktif dan Permainan Digital pula masing-masing akan menerima wang tunai sehingga RM100,000 dan tempoh selama sepuluh bulan untuk menyiapkan projek mereka.&nbsp;&nbsp;

These cities not only serve as Malaysia&rsquo;s centres of innovation, but as hosts to some of the world&rsquo;s most prolific multinational technology companies. They form a vital part of Malaysia&rsquo;s digital economy&nbsp;ecosystem.

Chief among this is Cyberjaya, serving as the catalyst of Malaysia&rsquo;s digital journey ever since its&nbsp;inception 25 years ago. The city currently&nbsp;houses&nbsp;144,000 innovators and creators, about 400 MSC- status entities including multinational corporates (MNCs), and over 40 government agencies and government-linked hubs.

It is, essentially, the technology heart of Malaysia, serving as the base for successful technology startups and enterprises the likes of Aerodyne, Govicle, and Animonsta Studios.

There are many factors that make Cyberjaya fertile grounds for technology companies, from its ample land and proximity to Kuala Lumpur to its strong infrastructure and large talent pool, which stems from its seven universities and colleges.

Beyond that, the city is itself a Living Lab, allowing investors and creators to pilot and validate their innovations across the city, tapping into a large demography of early tech adopters. For instance, it is the first Malaysian city to be cashless&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;at least 90% of its merchants are now using ePayment.

Combined with the&nbsp;National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS), Cyberjaya offers itself as a city where tech startups and MNCs can safely and reliably innovate.

Penang, on the other hand, recently introduced Digital Penang, a digital transformation masterplan for the island state. Digital Penang rides on the back of a vibrant manufacturing and electrical and electronics (E&amp;E) industry. Among other things, Penang contributes approximately 8 percent of the global backend semiconductor output.

During a panel discussion on Malaysia Tech Month 2021 (MTM&rsquo;21) titled&nbsp;Enabling Cities to Become Global Tech Hubs for Emerging Technologies, Digital Penang CEO Tony Yeoh said that Penang&rsquo;s&nbsp;strength is in their engineering prowess&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;the manufacturing capabilities of the state means that&nbsp;individuals and companies in the &ldquo;Software for Hardware&rdquo; space can&nbsp;thrive.

To say nothing of the state&rsquo;s famously terrific food, its UNESCO heritage status, and access to pristine beaches, which make it an attractive place for digital talent and organisations.

Now, the city is looking beyond the skies. In August 2021, the Angkasa-X Group of Companies announced plans to turn Penang into a regional space technology ecosystem hub, with the goal of fostering local innovation and technology transfer while creating jobs and opportunities across Malaysia.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow&nbsp;said&nbsp;that Penang&rsquo;s strong talent pool&nbsp;serves as a key driver to&nbsp;the state&rsquo;s success in attracting strategic investments, especially in niche industries.

Established since 2006, Iskandar Puteri has since become a hub for emerging digital technologies. Its initiative, Iskandar NEXT, seeks to develop and implement Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technology ecosystems.

This led to the creation of the Blockchain Village at Medini (BVAM); and the Drone and Robotics Zone (DRZ)&nbsp;Iskandar, Malaysia&rsquo;s first drone and robotics hub. In total, both initiatives are projected to bring more than RM900 million in investments and create over 2,000 high-value, knowledge-based jobs.

In the MTM&rsquo;21 session, Zulfiqar Zainuddin, Managing Director, IIB Ventures, said that these activities&nbsp;signify that Iskandar has grown from its early days as a green field development to getting the awareness, policies, and manpower in place for emerging technologies.

&ldquo;Today, Iskandar Puteri is poised to take on the challenges that are required to enable the city to become a tech hub,&rdquo; he said.

These are not the only Malaysian cities that are emerging as global tech hubs. Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak, has through the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) created the Sigfox Internet of Things (IoT) and the 5G Technology Testbeds&nbsp;&ndash;&nbsp;open innovation platforms driving the development of IoT and 5G use cases.

Kuching is also home to iCube Innovation, a 14,000 square feet innovation centre designed to facilitate the creation and growth of entrepreneurs through collaboration and co-incubation. These combine to make the city a strong tech startup destination.

Each of these cities have their own unique offerings for local and foreign tech companies to land and expand in&nbsp;&ndash; an extension of Malaysia&rsquo;s robust digital investment offerings, facilitated by Malaysia Digital&nbsp;Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Digital Investment Office (DIO).

&ldquo;The development of these cities into global tech hubs is in line with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) to make Malaysia a regional leader in digital economy, especially towards its target to create 500,000 new jobs, attract two unicorns, and achieve RM70 billion investment in&nbsp;digitalisation,&rdquo; said&nbsp;Raymond Siva, Senior Vice President, Investment and Brand and Chief Marketing Officer, MDEC.

Supporting investments into these cities is MDEC&rsquo;s &lsquo;Digital Investments Future5&rsquo;&nbsp;(DIF5) strategy, a five- year plan aimed at attracting investments and advancing Malaysia&rsquo;s digital economy.&nbsp;Among other targets, DIF5 aims to bring RM50 billion investments, 50 Fortune500 tech companies and the creation of 50,000 jobs in the digital economy.

Selain itu, laporan Kearney berkenaan masa depan AI di Asia Tenggara mendapati walaupun adaptasi AI di rantau ini masih di peringkat awal, dengan penggunaan dan pelaksanaan AI yang betul akan menambah sekitar US$115 bilion kepada KDNK Malaysia menjelang 2030.

Set to happen from 25 to 29 October 2021, AIDW 2021 aims to catalyse data technology adoption among Malaysian business enterprises and to foster data ecosystem development in Malaysia.

AIDW 2021 will feature a host of talks and panel discussions by data and industry experts with the aim to foster a thriving data and AI ecosystem, especially in terms of mindset, integration, and adoption of the IoT, Data, and AI among enterprises, working professionals, government officials and the public.

Data-driven spending in Malaysia is on the rise. An MDEC-commissioned study by IDC found that Malaysia&rsquo;s big data and analytics market is set to grow from US$1.1 billion (RM4.5 billion) in 2021 to US$1.9 billion (RM7.89 billion) in 2025.

Additionally, Kearney&rsquo;s report on the future of AI in Southeast Asia noted that while AI adoption in the region is still nascent, proper application and execution of AI can add US$115 billion to the Malaysia&rsquo;s GDP by 2030.

&ldquo;Malaysia is witnessing a significant growth in data-driven adoption among organisations and businesses. MDEC and the Malaysian government are cognisant of the importance of data not only in driving efficiency and improving governance, but also in growing the Malaysian digital economy.

MDEC Announces the AI and Data Week 2021 to Further Catalyse Data Technology Adoption

	CYBERJAYA, 13 OCTOBER 2021:&nbsp;Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia&rsquo;s lead&nbsp;digital economy agency, has announced the 4IR Catalyst Grant (4ICG) in support of scaling up Malaysian-based technology companies.

	The 4ICG is designed to catalyse the use and development of 4IR technology into key business verticals as outlined in the national 4th&nbsp;IR policy. The grant will be used solely for the purpose of co-creation, problem-solving and commercialisation of 4th&nbsp;IR solutions.

	Successful local applicants will be awarded up to 50 per cent of the total project cost, subject to a ceiling limit of RM2 million whichever is lower. Chosen foreign owned companies will be awarded up to 30 per cent of the total project cost, subject to a ceiling limit of RM2 million, whichever is lower.

	Grant recipients will also be onboarded into MDEC&rsquo;s GAIN programmes and&nbsp;will benefit from market access, business matching, funding facilitation and mentoring opportunities. 	Applicants who can demonstrate this requirement may request for a mobilisation payment not exceeding 20 per cent of the grant amount upon signing of the letter of offer issued by MDEC.

	CYBERJAYA, 13 OCTOBER 2021:&nbsp;Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia&rsquo;s lead&nbsp;digital economy agency, has announced the 4IR Catalyst Grant (4ICG) in support of scaling up Malaysian-based technology companies.

	The 4ICG is designed to catalyse the use and development of 4IR technology into key business verticals as outlined in the national 4th&nbsp;IR policy. The grant will be used solely for the purpose of co-creation, problem-solving and commercialisation of 4th&nbsp;IR solutions.

	Successful local applicants will be awarded up to 50 per cent of the total project cost, subject to a ceiling limit of RM2 million whichever is lower. Chosen foreign owned companies will be awarded up to 30 per cent of the total project cost, subject to a ceiling limit of RM2 million, whichever is lower.

	Grant recipients will also be onboarded into MDEC&rsquo;s GAIN programmes and&nbsp;will benefit from market access, business matching, funding facilitation and mentoring opportunities. They also stand to benefit from revenue and export increase, upskilling and increased chances in receiving investments.

MDEC Launches 4IR Catalyst Grant Worth Up To RM2 Million for Malaysian-Based Technology Companies

4ICG direka untuk memangkinkan penggunaan dan pembangunan teknologi 4IR menjadi bidang perniagaan utama seperti yang termaktub di dalam&nbsp;Dasar Revolusi Perindustrian Ke-4 (4IR). Geran&nbsp;berkenaan akan digunakan untuk penciptaan bersama, penyelesai masalah dan pengkomersilan penyelesaian 4IR sahaja.&nbsp;

Penerima tempatan yang berjaya akan dianugerahkan sehingga 50 peratus daripada kos projek, tertakluk kepada had siling RM2 juta atau mana lebih rendah. Syarikat milik asing terpilih akan dianugerahkan sehingga 30 peratus daripada kos projek, tertakluk kepada had siling RM2 juta atau mana lebih rendah.

Sebahagian daripada perjanjian berkenaan, MDEC dan MDA akan menganjurkan siri perbincangan libat urus yang dikenali sebagai Digital Wednesday, pada setiap suku tahun. Sesi tersebut akan menampilkan tetamu terkemuka dan pakar industri serta barisan kepimpinan MDEC, yang akan berkongsi pandangan dan pembangunan bakat terkini, pelaburan dan pelan digital untuk menyumbang kepada pertumbuhan ekosistem ekonomi digital Malaysia.

As part of the agreement, both MDEC and MDA are set to organise a speaking engagement series called Digital Wednesday, on a quarterly basis. The sessions will feature prominent industry speakers&nbsp;and experts as well as MDEC&rsquo;s leadership team&nbsp;who will share insights and the latest on talent development, digital investments and plans to further contribute to grow&nbsp;Malaysia&rsquo;s digital economy ecosystem.
