GEORGE TOWN, PENANG, 21 January 2026 – Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), an agency under the Ministry of Digital, today hosted the third edition of the Malaysia Digital Xceleration State Leadership Summit (MDX SLS) 2026. This is a key initiative designed to strengthen state-level execution of the national digital agenda and accelerate Malaysia’s journey towards becoming an AI Nation by 2030, in line with Malaysia MADANI aspirations.

MDX SLS 2026, led by MDEC’s State Digital Economy Office (SDEO), serves as an ongoing platform to align national digital priorities with effective implementation at state-level.
Through MDEC’s regional offices in Penang, Johor and Sarawak, SDEO strengthens the digital ecosystem by partnering both public and private sectors to drive Malaysia’s digital competitiveness in the region, towards becoming an AI nation by 2030.

As MDEC marks its 30th anniversary, this year’s MDX SLS 2026 convened 120 state leaders from across the country, including representatives from state agencies, policymakers, industry players and ecosystem partners.

Deputy Minister of Digital, YB Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong, emphasised that “close collaboration across all levels of government is vital to accelerate Malaysia’s digital advancement. Through MDX SLS 2026, national digital and AI priorities are further aligned with state-level execution to ensure that the benefits of AI technologies are realised by industries and communities nationwide”.

MDEC Chief Executive Officer, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, affirmed that “MDX SLS 2026 is a key platform for AI ecosystem development, made possible through partnership with industry, academia, and society. This collaborative approach is critical to deliver the national digital and AI agenda in an inclusive, cohesive and high-impact manner across all states”.

Over three days, participants will engage in thought leadership exchanges, strategic engagements and action-oriented sessions, focused on translating national digital and AI priorities into tangible outcomes at the state level.
