TOKYO, 16 May 2025 - The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has announced that it has secured more than RM350 million in business export opportunities at the largest global Sushi Tech Tokyo 2025 recently. This milestone highlights Malaysia’s commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration within the global technology ecosystem.
The event has become synonymous with being ‘Asia’s largest startup and innovation conference’ and brought together tens of thousands of participants and more than 500 startups from around the world. Among others, its objectives were aimed at fostering open innovation to address global urban challenges through cutting-edge technologies and diverse ideas.
Anuar Fariz Fadzil, CEO of MDEC, stated that the achievement of RM350 million in business export opportunities reflects Malaysia’s international standing as a trusted and attractive investment destination on the global front.
“This accomplishment is a clear reflection of the innovative spirit and resilience of Malaysian digital entrepreneurs. Our commitment to promoting Malaysia as a global digital hub is stronger than ever, and we will continue to empower our tech ecosystem to explore international opportunities”, he said.
“Malaysia’s strong digital infrastructure, pro-business policies and strategic location at the heart of Southeast Asia have made our nation an ideal launchpad for global technology partnerships. Coupled with strategic government-led initiatives and a thriving pool of digital talent, our country continues to attract sustained interest from international investors and technology companies looking to expand their footprint in the region,” added Anuar.
As the Ambassador and Lead Organisation for the Malaysia Pavilion at the event, MDEC – along with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Tokyo and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) – was joined by Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) and Cyberview Sdn Bhd, to showcase 17 Malaysian tech companies through exhibition booths, a Malaysia Tech Spotlight pitching session, and key business meetings.
Malaysian tech companies had hosted over 150 business meetings with corporates and companies from various countries, including Thailand, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, and the United States of America, covering a wide range of topics such as AI, Fintech, Robotics, Semiconductor, and Quantum technology.
The Malaysian tech companies include Alphaswift Industries, ALT Synergy, Bay Group Holdings, Boostorder, Collaborative Excellence, GoFluence, Hikayat Kebun, MDT Innovations, Move Robotic, MV Asia Sdn Bhd (FoneApp), Neupulse (BiiB), Pandai Education, Primary Guard, Sky-Tag Robotics, Unicom Marketing Digital, Xtractify and Qarbotech.
Among the key highlights of the mission is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange between MDEC and WingArc1st, a renowned Japanese provider of software and cloud services, held at WingArc1st’s headquarters in Roppongi.
Represented by Jun Tanaka, CEO of WingArc1st, and Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, MDEC’s Head of Digital Industry Acceleration & Digital Exports, the MoU aims to enhance the data capabilities of high-potential Malaysian startups and accelerate their business growth by facilitating Malaysian startups’ entry into Japan through Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrations and funding support to drive cross-border innovation and expansion.
MDEC also witnessed the collaboration partnership signing between Boostorder and WingArc1st, which aims to enhance operational efficiency and empower informed decision-making through data-driven solutions, reinforcing the commitment to leveraging technology for business growth.
