Overview:

For government and private service providers, digital identity is the first step in building strong customer relationships and maintaining trust and loyalty. A decentralized digital identity is a user-centric technology that puts control over data into the hands of owners, backed by secure and compliant verification. Individual users have full control over their online identities, improving privacy and convenience. This creates brand new opportunities for interaction between governments and people and seamless collection and exchange of data within and between public institutions, with private companies, person to person, and across borders.

The Digital Trust Suite developed by SICPA is a family of software and services to easily build trustworthy relationships for government and private sector service providers through the usage of portable and verifiable credentials that are cryptographically secured, ensuring their authenticity and tamper-proof nature. The Digital Trust Suite provides capabilities to support the issuance, verification, and revocation of verifiable credentials and the ancillary services required for their administration. The Digital Trust Suite is to be used by governments, public and private organizations, or any entity that needs to play the role of an issuer or verifier in the Verifiable Credential Data Model.

Pain Points:

In the Internet of the future, decentralized digital identity systems will connect and interact globally, enabling verification, issuance, and reuse of trusted credentials by different authorities in multiple jurisdictions. However, interoperability between different cross-border platforms and testing of legacy and digital security features are critical components for solving this challenge.

It is also important to enable faster, more secure, and integrated transactions over the Internet, nationally and cross-border. Significant improvements are required in how data is exchanged, managed, and communicated between decentralised national and international authorities.

Resolving this will save time and money and aid adoption by simplifying the user experience.

Solution/Services:

DIGITAL SERVICES : Digital Trust Suite

Key Features and Functionalities

  1. Integrating verifiable, consent-based credentials—having a means to connect different identity platforms and implement security features such as digital signatures, privacy-preserving biometric tools, and wallet-less applications to increase transaction security, levels of assurance, and inclusivity.
  2. Guarantee privacy and compliance anytime, anywhere—demonstrating the feasibility of issuing identity data based on common standards that enable the secure exchange of data between multiple government agencies.
  3. Data could be verified both online and offline (in the event of connectivity problems) by an issuer (government), by a controller (such as immigration services), or by a citizen, using a smartphone and guaranteeing both privacy and compliance.

Implementation:

As an example of an implementation In early September 2023, SICPA went live with the IATA tenant for the Digital Trust Suite, allowing the provision of enterprise functionality to travel agents to seamlessly identify themselves to airlines and other actors in the travel supply chain by using organizational wallets, which can issue and verify credentials, to ensure the verified identification of all actors in the distribution chain.
