They bring a wealth of industry experience and knowledge in their respective fields, and are collectively responsible for implementing and delivering our strategic industry development and digital transformation objectives.

A recognised industry leader, Mahadhir has a proven track record of over 20 years in various industries including Financial Services, Energy (Oil and Gas), Information Technology and Media, serving established global and local organisations such as Deloitte Consulting, Kodak, PETRONAS and AmInvestment Bank.

 

He was previously the co-founder and CEO of Futurise since its establishment in 2017, an agency under the Ministry of Finance mandated to drive the National Regulatory Sandbox (NRS) and a wholly owned subsidiary of Cyberview. In March 2020, Mahadhir was also handpicked to be part of the founding team at the National Economic Implementation and Strategic Coordination Agency (LAKSANA) under the Ministry of Finance.

 

Appointed the General Manager at Cyberview in 2015, he was instrumental in formulating the development of the Cyberjaya Global Technology Hub Blueprint and its implementation. Amongst the notable digital and tech transformation projects in which he successfully launched was the establishment of the City Innovation Council to manage Smart City implementation including the Cashless Cyberjaya programme. 

 

Mahadhir has also served on various committees such as the United Nations Technology Innovation Labs Advisory Panel and the Malaysian Industry4WRD Regulatory Panel at the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI).

On the global stage, Mahadhir has represented Malaysia at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum (2015 – a World Economic Forum branch of Russian Federation), Smart City Expo World Congress (2016-2018) in Barcelona (where he was acknowledged as among the global thought leaders in smart city initiatives), Global Transformation Forum (2017) and United Nations World Urban Forum (2018) which subsequently led to him being invited as a panel member of the United Nations Technology Innovation Labs.

 

Mahadhir is passionate about developing communities and society in general. He has contributed pro-bono work for the Project Management Institute (PMI) where he was the Content Reviewer and Contributor for the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), which is the guide used for all PMI-certified project managers (Project Management Professional – PMP) globally.

 

He is an active participant in the Malaysian education system at both the university and secondary school programs ranging from volunteer work to arts and STEM. Mahadhir holds a B.Sc. Computer Science from Lakehead University with a Minor in Business and is registered with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT).

DATUK FADZLI ABDUL WAHIT

Head of Transformation

Prior to joining MDEC, Datuk Fadzli was the Partner/Executive Director for the Management Consulting Practice of KPMG Business Advisory (Head of Government Sector), KPMG Malaysia. 

Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit is currently the Chief Transformation Officer of MDEC, where he leads the Business Processes, Culture and Values and as well as Innovation and Technology related Transformation initiatives. Prior to joining MDEC, Datuk Fadzli was the Partner/Executive Director for the Management Consulting Practice of KPMG Business Advisory (Head of Government Sector), KPMG Malaysia. 

 

Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit has over 30 years’ experience in advising government and semi- government in Malaysia as well as abroad, and his main areas of specialisation are in Corporate Transformation and Restructuring, Policy Development, Economic and Feasibility Study, Strategy Planning & Advisory. His breadth of expertise has helped various stakeholders and partnership between government sectors and large corporations. He has also led several successful projects relating to Information Technology, Organisational Culture, Project Management, Strategy and Business Process, and Human Resources. 

Amongst his past professional experience includes stints at Coopers & Lybrand Management Consulting, Arthur Andersen Business Consulting and RHB Sakura Merchant Bank.

RAYMOND SIVA

Head of Digital Investment

He is a sought-after Strategist for International brands, local conglomerates and CEOs. 

Ray has more than 23 years of experience in strategic communications, investor strategy and promotion, crisis and issues response. He is a sought-after Strategist for International brands, local conglomerates and CEOs. Ray has conducted over 100 spokesperson and crisis trainings, investor and corporate messaging workshops and talks in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Ray is fluent in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia. 

Ray assumed leadership of Edelman Malaysia in 2010, growing it to be the largest Communications consultancy firm in Malaysia with over 60 consultants, leading the financial communications and stakeholder engagement strategy for various multinational and government-linked companies. Ray moved to lead the Edelman Indonesia team at the tail end of 2015, leading over 100 consultants in the Jakarta office. Prior to joining the Edelman network in 2010, Raymond was General Manager at Grey PR, a multinational firm for over three years, growing the team to build competencies across corporate, consumer, technology and sports marketing public relations. 

Ray is recognized for his financial communications, investor relations and CEO/Leadership positioning. He had led various IPOs in Malaysia and Indonesia, including the world’s second largest IPO and the biggest in Asia in 2012. 

 

He is recognized as one of the few Malaysians with deep knowledge of the government and international affairs, with extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and management. He is also the only strategic consultant from Malaysia who has successfully led Investor Promotion engagements for both private and public sector at the World Economic Forum at Davos for 5 years. 

 

Ray was appointed as the Chief Marketing Officer of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) in October 2019. He assumed the Digital Investment portfolio as the Senior Vice President (SVP), Digital Investment Division of MDEC in December 2020. 

 

He holds an LLB from the University of London and a Professional Diploma in Public Relations from the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia.

DR SUMITRA NAIR

Head of Strategy & Policy

Sumitra has more than two decades of corporate experience including 11 years of senior leadership experience 

Sumitra is Senior Vice President of Strategy and Policy at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). She currently leads MDEC’s corporate strategy, planning, policy and ESG agenda. 

 

Sumitra has more than two decades of corporate experience including 11 years of senior leadership experience. Throughout her career, her responsibilities have spanned a breadth of management domains such as Strategy Development, Project Management, Business Development and Partnerships, Governmental Relations, Public Affairs and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) management, primarily in digital economy-related sectors. 

During her tenure with MDEC, Sumitra has built and led several high-performing teams to initiate, establish and scale socio-economic development programmes that have impacted more than 2 million Malaysians. 

 

Sumitra holds a PhD in Business & Economics from Monash University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, an Executive Management Certificate in International Marketing from INSEAD University and a Bachelor of Economics from University Malaya.

 

In her free time, Sumitra is a parenting course facilitator, Sunday School Human Values Teacher, and Co-founder of the 100 Women Who Care – Subang Jaya chapter. Her most important role is being a mother to two digital natives.

Razif Aziz

Head of Business Services

Razif is passionate about the dynamics between business and the role that technology and Government plays in its development and have written extensively on tech, start-ups, innovation and the challenges of commercialisation as a columnist for local science and daily newspapers. 

A senior executive with over 23 years of experience in a variety of roles ranging from business development, corporate, legal & regulatory affairs, communications and sales & marketing in various sectors such as defence, construction, FMCG, telecoms & broadcast, biotechnology and Government. 

 

Razif is passionate about the dynamics between business and the role that technology and Government plays in its development and have written extensively on tech, start-ups, innovation and the challenges of commercialisation as a columnist for local science and daily newspapers. 

 

He has drafted telecoms and broadcast industry subsidiary legislation, consulted for renewable energy and cleantech start-ups helping them navigate the commercial-legal aspects of their business, acted as a technical adviser for the Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority on aspects of the Feed in Tariff framework and led the management of large scale tech development programmes such as Malaysia’s push into Biotech development in 2006-2012. 

Notable was his stewardship of the Malaysian Business Angel Network from 2015-2018 where he helped secure the group’s financial independence through corporate sponsorships, grow its membership from 56 to >200 accredited angel investors as well as successfully leading efforts to create an ASEAN grouping of angel investors known as the ASEAN Angels Alliance in 2016 with angel groups from 8 ASEAN countries as its members. 

 

In his spare time he  enjoys deep diving into all manner of inane things like cars, hifi and military gear and has a soft spot for action movies and the odd cat video on YouTube. A wannabe petrolhead, Razif has visited the Nurburgring racetrack twice, lapping the circuit the first time in the famed BMW M5 E60 V10 Ring Taxi and the second time with a fellow petrolhead in a Renault Clio Trophy.

GOPI GANESALINGAM

Head of Ecosystem Development

Gopi Ganesalingam is a finance professional and an entrepreneur who has served in
executive and board positions in the Asia Pacific region for the last 33 years. 

Gopi has worked in brand names like Matsushita, American Express International, Lucent Technologies, Telstra Australia, Duetsche Telecoms Consulting and as go-to-market partners for salesforce.com and Google (via the company he founded, LAVA Protocols).

 

Gopi is now the Senior Vice-President of Ecosystem Development at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysia’s lead digital economy agency.   

At MDEC, Gopi is at the forefront of championing talented tech entrepreneurs and disruptors whilst growing and connecting the local tech ecosystem to be globally visible and competitive –powering tech companies and entrepreneurs to actualise their business vision and in becoming regional and global champions. 

Gopi has always been passionate about developing Malaysia’s digital economy towards achieving sustainable and inclusive socioeconomic development. 

 

He strives to connect and propel the digital economy via targeted government support and intervention initiatives, corporate partnerships/ innovation, aligning investors/ funders, digital talent, adoption initiatives and public-private partnerships; in realisation of national and nation-building agendas. 

 

Gopi also serves as Independent Board Director with MCIS Life (Insurance) and as Trustee and Board Director of Junior Achievement Worldwide, Malaysian chapter.
