#TECH: MDEC #DigitalVsCovid movement raises RM387,000 to support frontliners

MALAYSIA Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has raised over RM387,000 in pledges from internal and external donors during its #DigitalVsCovid movement, which kicked off on April 1 to mitigate the impact resulting from Covid-19.

MDEC has coordinated with tech companies in rallying support to provide lifesaving supplies and equipment to the medical professionals.

The company said despite being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysian digital businesses continued to stand out as pillars within the local communities they serve.

These pandemic relief supplies range from PPE/ICU suits (sterile protective coverall); three-ply face masks; face visors; ‘space’ suits; food and general supplies; and other types of required medical equipment.

Among the companies contributed include Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd; Giggle Garage Sdn Bhd; Animonsta Studios Sdn Bhd; Digital Durian, Mirayi Sdn Bhd; The R&D Studio; Vision Animation Sdn Bhd; Pixelline Production Sdn Bhd; Anima Vitae Point Sdn Bhd; Fly Studio Sdn Bhd; Animasia Studio Sdn Bhd;

Appxplore (iCandy) Sdn Bhd; Beetleroar Sdn Bhd; Passion Republic Sdn Bhd; Wau Animation; Netcarbon; Milk tree; RBC Investor & Treasury Services (M) Sdn Bhd.

Part of pledges was also made via the digital crowdfunding platforms which MDEC had taken the lead to convene and drive to raise funds to deploy medical gears and protective equipment for medical professionals to fight against the spread of the Covid-19.

The participating crowdfunding platforms include the Global Sadaqah (globalsadaqah.com), pitchIN (pitchin.my), and SimplyGiving (simplygiving.com). The funds were channeled to IMARET, (http://www.imamalaysia.org/what-we-do/imaret/), a reliable and certified non-profit organisation (NGO) that conforms to MKN20 protocol to distribute the items to hospitals and ‘Klinik Kesihatan’ nationwide.
