Penjana will channel RM75 million into gig economy [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has allocated RM75 million to promote the gig economy and provide a social safety net for workers in the informal sector.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this will be achieved beginning August this year through several initiatives under the Penjana Economic Recovery Plan.

“The government will provide a matching grant of up to RM50 million for gig economy platforms which contribute towards the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) employment injury scheme and the Employee Provident Fund’s (EPF) i-Saraan contribution.

“The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) will be provided with RM25 million for the Global Online Workforce (Glow) programme,” he said during his live televised address today.
