Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Appoints MDEC Chairman As Adjunct Professor

CYBERJAYA, 27 MAY 2021: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), lead agency for the nation’s digital transformation, announced today that its Chairman, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Wira Dr Hj Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff, has been appointed Adjunct Professor by the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The appointment is effective 1 June 2021 and will run until 31 May 2022. In this role, Dr Rais will advise and provide recommendations to the Advanced Informatics department on aspects relating to the formulation of its curriculum within the faculty. He will also be conducting lectures and seminars as well as conducting dialogues with the academic staff and students of UTM.

“I am honoured to be able to play my part and lend my experience and expertise to nurture and educate the next generation of leaders of Malaysia. I have always been passionate on education and will strive to impart my knowledge and instill a love of learning for STEM and innovation related content. Let’s make no mistake; education is not only an enabler for progress but the engine powering innovation and hope.

“Constructive engagements and dialogues with the academic staff and students will be high on my priority as I seek to ensure current curriculum stays relevant in today’s on-ground reality as well as the tectonic shift in 4IR and digital technologies.

“Building our next generation’s capabilities in digital and encouraging the application of technology in daily lives is crucial. I look forward to advocate change and enable equitable opportunities in the digital economy, in line with Malaysia 5.0; a nation deeply integrated with technology that empowers inclusivity, sustainability and shared prosperity,” said Dr Rais.

MDEC has worked extensively with schools and universities throughout the country. Most recently, MDEC collaborated with UTM to launch a special scholarship for postgraduate students majoring in Artificial Intelligence (AI) programme. The scholarship, known as MyIndustry AI Scholarship Programme, aims to enhance the utilisation of AI technologies in Malaysia to drive the digital agenda forward.
