Success Story / Case Study

With the support of MDEC, Soft Space has always been pushing the boundaries of innovation and is developing new use cases for its technologies, especially for contactless credit card based on its flagship Tap-to-Phone technology, “Fasstap” aimed at going beyond payments.
One new exciting area it is entering into is to use Fasstap to securely process credit and debit card information for transit validation. Collaborating with digital identity specialist Idemia and Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Fasstap will be deployed with the Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to validate contactless payment fares using off-the-shelf, consumer-grade devices.
Going beyond its payment capabilities, Fasstap has been successfully integrated with the TfNSW’s ORPA validator, a mobile application used to check for ticketing compliance. Transit systems in New South Wales are based on an honour system. This means that passengers are required to honestly pay their fare on any mode of transport they use. As altruistic as that sounds, some do not end up paying and TfNSW ends up losing huge revenue as a result.
